Mission

The Normal Park Neighborhood Association (NPNA) of Ypsilanti, Michigan, formed in 1989, is the oldest neighborhood association in the City of Ypsilanti.

NPNA covers the area bounded by Congress Street on the south, the south side of Washtenaw Avenue on the north, Mansfield Street on the west, and the west side of Summit Street on the east. (See Map). Approximately 700 households are in the Normal Park neighborhood, all of which are automatic members of the neighborhood association. NPNA imposes no dues, although contributions are always appreciated. NPNA's primary fundraiser is its annual Yard Sale each June.

NPNA's mission is as defined by our charter:

The mission of the NPNA is to have a positive, lasting impact on the quality of life in the Normal Park neighborhood, and thus the City of Ypsilanti as a whole. Through active partnerships with other civic groups, businesses, schools, libraries, neighbors and government, we will work to beautify the environment, protect property values, encourage compatible businesses, reduce crime and foster pride in our community.

1. To improve and beautify the Normal Park neighborhood through encouraging upkeep of homes and streets, through teamwork and cooperation of members of the NPNA and with support of the City of Ypsilanti and other community organizations.

2. To inform members of NPNA through this website, newsletters, meetings and other means of communication, of events occurring in the Normal Park neighborhood and the City of Ypsilanti of interest to members.

3. To encourage members to actively participate in the activities that benefit the Normal Park neighborhood and the City of Ypsilanti including but not limited to supporting our parks, libraries, community centers and schools.

4. To encourage members to identify with the neighborhood through social functions, such as the yard sale, socials, parades, community gardens, clean-up campaigns and similar events.

5. Any other lawful purpose which generally benefits the Normal Park neighborhood, its membership and the City of Ypsilanti.

NPNA has a volunteer board of directors who meet monthly to formulate goals and track the efforts toward reaching them.

Visit NPNA's Calendar to learn of upcoming events in the neighborhood. NPNA also publishes a quarterly Newsletter which is distributed to residents and is also available on this website. If you would like to volunteer your time and energy to our efforts to better the Normal Park neighborhood, Contact Us.

NPNA holds quarterly general meetings where speakers and topics of interest to the neighborhood are featured. Representative topics have included the Recreation Commission, Water Street Project, History of Normal Park, and home improvement.
